New bass flute rest in collaboration with DiZhao
We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with the famous Chinese-American flute brand DiZhao!
Woodify custom designed a bass flute rest for DiZhao's acclaimed bass flutes!
Our task
We worked on a bass flute crutch that would be as flexible as possible, allowing for the most user-specific needs.
We wanted to allow players to adapt (1) the position where the rest is applied, (2) the rotation of the support, (3) the distance from the instrument (height of the rest), and (4) the shape of the rest. To achieve this, we designed the rest as a 3 part construction, featuring:
- A base element attached to the tube of the instrument via an adhesive
- An ergonomic part that fits perfectly into the hand and feels very natural
- A spacer to increase distance of the hand to the instruments tube
The rest is designed in durable ABS, as well as beautifully shaped Walnut wood, that feels warm and comfortable in the hand.
The rest can be easily mounted and removed on the fly, via a practical hook:
The height of the rest can be adapted by stacking up the spacers:
The ergonomic shape can be easily rotated and fixated with a variable angle, to fit every personal players need.
About DiZhao Flutes
Discover their story
Here how DiZhao came to being, in the very own words of William, the son of Mr. DiZhao:
"When I first came to America in 1990, I was looking for my version of the American Dream, that intoxicating belief that anyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from, can find success in a land that rewards sacrifice, risk taking, and hard work. While studying for my master’s degree in music at the University of Indiana, I took on several part time jobs and discovered a new passion for instrument repair work. I spent a lot of time working on student instruments, especially flutes, and being surprised. Sure, they were better than my first flute, but not by nearly as much as I would have thought.
Over the last thirty years, I’ve worked at or with almost all of the world’s premier professional flute making companies, whether it be Powell, Haynes, Burkart, and more. Starting from the very beginning, I learned everything there was about handmade flute-making, from padding to stringing to headjoint cutting, and even helped develop new student flute factories for some of the abovementioned companies. But still, looking at the flutes around me, I thought that there was something missing."
So since then DiZhao has been at the forefront of innovation in flute manufacturing and has become the go-to brand for beginners and intermediate instruments all around the world.
About DiZhao instruments
All of their instruments are made with careful attention to precision in their factory in Jingzhou, China. The workers are all superbly trained directly by Mr. Zhao. The flutes are all padded with Pisoni pads, and all pads are partially shimmed like professional flutes. All instruments are made to achieve smooth key action, fast response, and excellent resonance.
All of their instruments are assembled, tested and adjusted by Di Zhao in the United States before being shipped. Each head-joint is specially hand-cut and feature silver risers, yet another feature that makes Di Zhao student models play like professional handmade flutes. ALL flutes are tuned to pitch 442. The wood in their grenadilla flutes has been carefully selected, treated, and seasoned to resist changes in temperature and humidity.
We are thrilled for this collaboration and hope to bring even more value to DiZhao instruments in the future! Check our their website to see all their beautiful instruments: https://dizhaoflutes.com/
Innovation starts with design
Every great product needs a great designer. And in this case, we needed not only a good designer, but one that understand musicians needs. Comfort while playing is essential for every musician, but when you design a product, you need to understand what the specific needs are. We worked with Mathias De Winter - a real expert in product design with quite some experience also in the music instruments space.
